Ore Bolarin’s journey towards healing and self-discovery has been one fuelled by positivity.
At just 21 years old, this Manchester native has already experienced the transformative power of positive emotions in her life. Having struggled with mental health issues in the past, Ore has come to recognise that cultivating positive emotions can be an essential step towards finding inner peace and happiness. ‘When we focus on positive emotions, it can help us shift our perspective and see the world in a more hopeful and optimistic light’ Ore explains. ‘It’s not about denying the challenges and difficulties we face, but rather, finding the strength and resilience to face them with positivity and grace.’ But positive emotions are not just good for our mental health. According to Ore, they can also have a significant impact on our physical well-being.
’Studies have shown that positive emotions can help to reduce stress levels, lower blood pressure, and even boost the immune system. This is because positive emotions can help to reduce the production of stress hormones like cortisol, which can have negative effects on our health when produced in excess. Additionally, positive emotions can help us feel more motivated to engage in healthy behaviours like exercise, which can further improve our physical health.’
So how can we cultivate more positive emotions in our daily lives? Ore has a few practical suggestions. ‘For example, practicing mindfulness can help us become more aware of our thoughts and emotions, which can help us to identify negative patterns and replace them with positive ones. Similarly, engaging in activities that we enjoy and that bring us a sense of accomplishment can help us feel more positive and fulfilled. Additionally, practicing gratitude and focusing on the positive aspects of our lives can help us cultivate a more positive outlook overall.’ Of course, it’s important to recognise that positive emotions may not always be enough to help us fully overcome negative experiences or traumas. ‘While positive emotions can help us cope with stress and feel more resilient, it’s important to acknowledge and process negative emotions as well in order to truly heal from difficult experiences’ Ore emphasises. ‘In some cases, seeking professional support from a therapist or counsellor may be necessary to help us work through these experiences and develop more effective coping strategies’ Despite this, Ore firmly believes that emphasising positive emotions in our daily lives can have many benefits for both individuals and society as a whole. ‘When people cultivate positive emotions like gratitude, love, and joy, they tend to have better mental health, better relationships, and a greater sense of purpose in life’ she notes. ‘They are also more likely to engage in pro-social behaviours, such as helping others and being more compassionate. On a societal level, a greater emphasis on positive emotions could lead to a more supportive and compassionate society, where people are more likely to work together towards common goals.’
As Ore’s story shows, positivity is a powerful force that can transform our lives and the world around us. By cultivating positive emotions.
